HIP HOP AND BALLET?

ON AUGUST 26TH AND 27TH., MARGOT MCCRAY GOUGH WILL HOST A TWO DAY WORKSHOP DANCE AND FUNK FITNESS presented by Greg Fountain.

Hip Hop – invented during the 70’s in inner city neighborhoods of the South Bronx, as a form of communal street dancing – no one ever imagined the popularity it would claim and become a world wide phenomenon.
A school known for primarily classical ballet must nowadays, more than ever keep up with the growing demand for different forms of dance, expanding the limits of what was once thought of as pure, set “steps” that would never be changed.

Ballet today is no longer limited. Once a student has classical ballet training – any form of dance becomes another outlet. Modern, contemporary, jazz and hip hop are breaking through those barriers to integrate into and with ballet. Pointe once thought of as being the most extreme level of ballet is being demonstrated and used even in Hip Hop.

The overlapping of these techniques has pushed the limits of dance to higher, more complicated and more difficult techniques, making the dancer of today much more versatile than his or her predecessors.

The Academy of Dance Arts is proud to be a leader in recognizing the importance of all forms of dance and exposing and encouraging our students to experiment with these.
